Mini Review ; Rimmel Scandaleyes Thick and Thin Liner

Oh Rimmel, you were my best friend back in the days of the first eyeliners, teenage discos and (cringe) cargo pants with strings.....

then you brought out the liquid, and the "professional" liquid, and it was true love in Jet Black, through thick and thin!

Now, you have the new "Scandaleyes Think and Thin" eyeliner, a felt pen, stating water-proof and smudge-proof abilities, with concentrated pigments and all the rest of the empty promises.

I was so disappointed with this eyeliner at first, let me explain the three major faults first then the one redeeming factor :(

1. The colour was not at all concentrated, it was more like a charcoal grey than black, a big no no for eyeliner.

2. Any primary child will tell you that a felt tip is useless when wet, therefore the minute it touches your watery eye, it loses all black magic, and nothing comes out until you rub it to dry it.

3. The tip of the felt was an angled one, sounds swell, until you realise the tip is dried out, or there are clumps of product on it, effectively ruining you beautiful concealer and great great blobs and or spaces, reminiscent of A Clockwork Orange!

Ok, so there are the negative points, and they are big ones, why would you bother buying this product if it's this bad?

The one feature of the eyeliner, is the fact that you can use it on un-mascara-ed peepers to create a look of no make-up literally. Just push the felt tip into the upper lash line, because it is very light and there's not a lot of gloopy product on a brush, it does boost the lash line, without the obvious line black line on top of the lashes. BUT how many times are you really going to use this, a good eye pencil could do this for you.....

Sooooo, I would pass this over, a no go with F.A.S.H., and it's not your gona be your BFF through thick and thin :(

Catrice "Pimp My Shrimp" Nail Laquer Review

The Catrice brand has grown massively in popularity since Penneys picked it up here in Ireland, and I personally thought that the price was too good to be true for quality make-up. UNTIL, a make-up artist used a lip-gloss on me! I thought "The cheek of her, using a cheap brand on me!" I know make-up snobbery at it's highest! So I asked her about the brand, and she said it's one of the best brands out there, and likened it to Essence, but better!

AS a non-animal tested, non celebrity endorsed range that releases 12 Trend Editions per year, this is a brand that is trying to be taken seriously, as you can see from it's website here:

So I thought to purchase a few "essentials" on my next shopping spree in Penney's. So here is my first mini review:

Catrice "Pimp My Shrimp" Nail Laquer

I thought that this name was just so perfect for a nail varnish that I couldn't leave it sitting alone and lonely on the shelf!

The colour is a coral colour, and dries to a slightly gloss finish. This colur is EVERYWHERE now, and a pop on your nails really makes it feel like summer.

This laquer is like Ronseal "it does what it says on the tin", the colour is bright, vibrant and very intense and the best part is it's only €2.99 in Penneys or Sam McCauleys.

After applying two coats, I did put on a clear top coat, and I was chip free for nearly a week!

Cannot say how pleased I am with this, and will definitely be purchasing more soon ( probably nest payday!)

Are there any nail varnishes you recommend? Give us a quick review here, or on the facebook page
I love hearing new idea's and seeing new comments on the page!

So what you waitin' for, go "Pimp your Shrimp" now with Catrice!

The kinkiness always wins out.......especially with the Babyliss Big Hair Hot Air Styler

Yes girls, the kinkiness seems to be winning out in me, and I am of course talking about my hair. My wonderful bf bought me the Babyliss Big Styler for Christmas ( I only gave him about 4 million hints!) and I have to say....I am soooo dissapointed, and I put it down to my hair type.

I am of the breed that has kinky tendencies ;), no matter how much muscle power the hairdresser puts into straightening it, after half an hour it's got waves bigger than the Atantic. A drop of moisture in the air and I can look like Monica in that episode of Friends, you know the one!

Yep, this one!
So back to the styler, it just did not work for me, let me explain why:

1. It kept catching in my hair, unless I used only a half inch piece, literally any bigger and it would get caugt inbetween the parts of the styler. I have a lot of hair, doing it in half inch pieces would take me longer than travelling to Dublin......by pony.

2. The style just did not hold, I tried mouse, I tried hairspray, I tried freeze spray, root lifter, and volumising powder, I was close to trying dog shampoo ( I didn't, but I was close)

3. It doesn't really catch the hAir, so you have to hold your hand on it, and keep the hair in place.

4. The bristles were too soft. I'm one of the misfortunates who literally has to drag the brush and hairdryer through my hair to straighten it, the bristles were just too soft to really create enough tension, and therefore, the kink would return about half an hour after finishing my hair :(

So, although the Babyliss Hot Air Big Hair Styler does not really work for me, I am determined to keep trying for the ultimate volume blow dry. My next move is to combine the styler and a hairdryer, so I'll let you know how that goes!

I genuinely think it would be a great tool for the lucky, lucky girls whose hair straightens easily, and maybe for people with thinner hair, as mine is quick thick.

So back to the drawing board of back combing and hairspray, a long tried and tested method for volume, but I will keep you girlies updated on the styler, just in case it starts miraculously working for me!

I will defeat the kinkiness, if it kills me!

Santa baby-liss!

Dear Santa,  I promise I have been a good girl this year. I have cleansed, toned and moisturised daily, I use a hair masque once a week, and I even bought a very expensive eye-cream. Plase forgive me leaving my make-up one after a night out once or twice, and using straighteners on damp hair, I really, truly am sorry.

product_as130e_1

This year all I want is the Babyliss Hot Air Big Hair Styler, let me explain why.....

- It has this big rotating barrel, with brushes that catch the hair and turn it while drying, like hairdresses do when they give you that b-e-au-tiful blowdry.

- It can spin two ways, so you can turn under, or flick out, and do both sides of your head.

- The hot air blows out of the barrel, and seals in the style.

- It comes in two different sizes, for longer hair, or shorter hair

PLUS, it can stop me using straighteners as much, and using lots of product to get a little bit of volume.

Please Santa, if you don't believe me, here is some evidence;

Holly's video is great, and she really explains how to use it properly

Also, Santa, I promise to do a review here when I use it first. I have left out some biscuuits, milk and a carrot for Rudolph, all are organic and yummy!

Thank You Santa :)

Winter drab :( to Winter FAB :)

Oil...the bane of most of our lives, if it's not causing spots on our skin, it's making our hair greasy enough to fry chips in , AND we have to pay a King's random to fill our tanks to heat our house! It's no wonder we hate the stuff!

But during the winter is the time we need oil the most, and not just for the radiators. Harsh winter winds, and constantly going from cold, to hot to "OMG its freeezing"really takes it's toll on our body and beauty, here's how oil can help you go from Winter Drab to Winter FAB :)

From this:

  To This :

During the winter we get dry, flaky patches on our face, dull complexions, cracked or dry , and brittle hair, but there are certain oils we can use to restore moisture to those parts that need it most!

FACE:

Rosehip oil is fantastic anti-oxidant for the face.
This is a product of the rosehip plant, and although you may think that to put oil on your face is direculous, in the winter its a great saver. It has natural anti-oxidants, and moisturises and even can improve the tone of your skin! Don't believe me? Go to the link below to see the Irish company Trilogys claims. It's been independently tested and passed with flying colours. If Rosehip is not for you, try Argan oil coconut or even almond oil. They have been used for years on hands, aces, and scars. And for all you Mummies-to-be, its supposed to be even better than Bio-oil on those stretch marks!

HAIR:

My absolute favourite oil for hair is
SUNFLOWER OIL, yep, the oil you put in your chip frier (disclamier; DO NOT use the oil from your frier, it will then smell like chips!!!) I do this regularly as I suffer from the dreaded winter hair frizz. When your hair is dry, comb the warm oil through it, until your head and all your hair is covered, wrap your head and hair with cling film, and throw on your towel like a turban. Yes, you can be Princess Jasmine if you like.....wait a half an hour and then wash with normal shampoo twice. The clingfilm seals the heat in from your head, and the towel keeps it hot and clean! I do this about twice a month, (or when I can find the time)
, and the next day your hair is a little greasier, but it will be super soft and shiny after the second wash. If you want to really go the whole hog, you can also add a few drops of Morrocan Oil  when your hair is wet, it helps seal in moisture and prevent the dreaded fuzzball effect. (Penneys do a Morroccan oil, and you can get it in most pharmacies)

You can go and buy the Vo5 oils for €4.99, or buy a whole bottle of sunflower oil for €2, beauty and a bargain, you gotta love it!

BODY;

I have tried plenty of different lotions and potions for body moisturising, but I keep returning to my Johnsons and Johnsons Baby Oil, it really does do the trick. Especially after shaving your legs, or just to return a little moisture to your skin, it works a treat..

They have scnted ones now, with Aloe Vera, (green bottle) in a gel with Shea and Cocoa Butter (brown), even a bedtime version with camomile to help you sleep..... this is a must have for dry skin, and it's not just for babies!

If you would like a more adult version, try Boots Pampering Dry Skin Body Oil, or Nivea Q10 Plus Firming Body Oil, available in all major pharmacies.

So there it is, oil is our winter friend, it helps hydrate and rejuvenate our face, hair and skin!

Don't forget, if there's anything you would like me to write about, send it in :)

F.A.S.H

Mascara Mayhem!

This week its all about my peepers, that's right, it's time for a new mascara. The old one is as dry as Mose's sandal, so off I pop for a new one....easy right? Oh no, mascara mayhem ensues.....

So I am part of the long lash brigade. I have ones like a cow on hair hormones or once someone told me they were like Miss Piggys (honest to God, didn't know if it was a compliment or an insult!)

You can see what I mean, but therein lies the problem...which mascara makes my peepers pop?

I have tried most cult brands, and I have come to the conclusion that it's all in the WAND.

Here are the usual different types in picture :

Starting from left to right:
1. "The General"  - suitable for long lashes looking for volume
2. "The Sleek Chic" - smaller bristles to really seperate thick lashes
3. "The Undecided" - has both comb and bristles for you to decide which is right
4. "The Comb" - most suitable for  short lashes as it really gets to the root of the eyelash and lifts from there.

There has been a new development from Benefit in the shape of the "They're Real" mascara. I have tried it, but I'm not sure it's worth the price :(

Yes, as you can see the ingenius little head on the top of the wand does help to seperate the lashes, but the brush itself is a little wimpy in bristle size, and just does not seperate my lashes enough itself.
our #1 mascara
So to end the sad story, I did what most women do when in a crisis, I went back to my old favourite show stealer:

Volum' Express® The Colossal Washable Mascara

An excellent choice for my long lash type, no clumps, good brush and it stays put even when it's not waterproof.

TIP :

When your applying your mascara, brush down from the eyelash to towrds the eye once first, then up twice to make sure you cover all hairs :)

Loving today: My Chanel Au Fraiche perfume,

Leaving today : Cold and early mornings

What's your favorite mascara, let me know here :)
